J-SERVE 2020, March 29- Fighting Food Insecurity in Westchester County
J-Teen Leadership participates in J-SERVE: the International Day of Jewish Youth Service. J-SERVE is an annual day held during March or April. At J-SERVE, Jewish teens around the world create projects to serve their home communities.
J-Teen Leadership has taken the lead role since 2008, coordinating a Westchester Teen Planning Committee, comprised of teens from the J-Teen Leadership Circle and other Westchester teens nominated by their synagogues or youth groups to plan the project.
J-SERVE 2020's theme is Fighting Food Insecurity. Teens will package meal kits for students and others in need who frequent the food pantry at Westchester Community College each month. For more information and to register click here.
J-SERVE 2019's theme is Run for Responders, a Westchester-wide community fundraiser/event that will take place on Sunday, April 7. Teen voluteers from J-Teen Leadership and BBYO-HVR will lead a day of fun activities and informative workshops.
J-SERVE 2018's theme was Literacy - Readers to Leaders and took place at The Eugenio Maria De Hostos MicroSociety School in Yonkers. Jewish youth from across Westchester joined together for a morning of reading fun for approximately 300 elementary school students and their families at the "Readers to Leaders" literacy carnival.
J-SERVE 2017's theme was Break the Barrier: Supporting Mental Health Awareness. Teens explored different facets of mental health and facilitated activities that helped build a mental wellness toolkit and learned how to recognize and alleviate pressures of mental health challenges.
J-SERVE 2016's theme was Wealth of Health. Teens created and led an interactive health and wellness fair and carnival for children and families in Yonkers, promoting healthy lifestyles and nutrition. Previous years' themes have included literacy, Hurricane Sandy, the environment and special needs populations.
J-Teen Leadership is grateful for a generous grant received from BBYO.
